Jerzy Butryn

Bass, graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the vocal class of Prof. Bogdan Makal (with honours), currently a post-graduate student at the Vocal Faculty. Laureate of the first prize in Franciszka Platówna National Vocal Competition in Wrocław, special prize of the International Vocal Competition in Kaunas and the prize of the Department of Culture in the Academic Competition for the Interpretation of Songs by Fryderyk Chopin and Robert Schumann in Wrocław. Participant of the Opera Academy – Young Talents Development Programme as part of the European Network of Opera Academies at the Wielki Theatre in Warsaw.

He performed in concert halls of Warsaw, Wrocław, Łódź and Krakow philharmonics, as well as in Kieler Schloss, at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms, at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Ohrid Summer Festival, International Wratislavia Cantans Festival, Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw, Leo Festival in Wrocław and at the Moniuszko Festival in Kudowa-Zdrój. The artist worked with Paul McCreesh, Giancarlo Guerrera, Rubén Silva, Stanisław Gałoński, Łukasz Borowicz and Ernst Kovacic, among many others. Co-founder of Collegium Zieleński ensemble, with whom he recorded Mikołaj Zieleński’s “Offertoria” and “Communiones”(Opera Omniaseries, distinguished with the Orphée d'Or awarded by Académie du disque lyrique in France and Fryderyk Award for early music).

He also works with a number of ensembles, including Capella Cracoviensis, Capella Viridimontana, Collegio di Musica Sacra, Wrocław Puppet Theatre and the National Forum of Music Choir. He took part in the recording of “Grande Messe des Morts” by Hector Berlioz, “Elijah” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (Diapason d'Or award), “War Requiem” by Benjamin Britten (BBC Music Magazine Award in the choral music of the year category and Fryderyk Award for an a cappella classical music album). He received a scholarship of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Mayor of the City of Wrocław.
