Eugene Asti studied at Mannes College of Music in New York with Jeannette Haien, where he earned his B.M. and M.A. and subsequently studied piano accompaniment with Graham Johnson at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Eugene currently teaches at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is Vocal Accompaniment Coordinator at Trinity College of Music. A Steinway Artist. He has performed with many great artists including Felicity Lott, Sarah Connolly, Willard White, Thomas Allen, Bryn Terfel, Angelika Kirchschlager and Margaret Price in venues such as Wigmore Hall and Barbican Centre in London; Musikverein in Vienna; Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg; Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Kölner Philharmonie; Megaron Athens International Conference Centre; Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels; Symphony Hall in Birmingham and Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York. His recordings include the complete songs and duets by Felix Mendelssohn, songs by Fanny Mendelssohn and the complete songs of Clara Schumann, all for Hyperion. Other recordings include a.o. the complete Mozart songs with Sophie Karthäuser and Stephan Loges for Cypres; a disc of Schumann Lieder with Sarah Connolly for Chandos Records; a recital of English song and Schubert’s “Schwanengesang” for BIS with James Rutherford and a disc of Poulenc “Melodiés: Les Anges Musiciens” and Hugo Wolf “Kennst du das Land” both with Sophie Karthaüser for Harmonia Mundi. He has completed an edition of rare Mendelssohn songs for Bärenreiter-Verlag which was published in 2008. He also shared the platform with pianist Graham Johnson and seventeen of the finest young singers of today for the season’s final song recital at Wigmore Hall.
